Frequently asked questions
ABC Cutting Contractors cuts, drills and removes concrete. Services are concrete core drilling, slab sawing (including electric slab saws for indoor work), wall sawing, hand sawing, wire sawing, concrete chainsaw cutting, concrete grinding, concrete trenching for plumbers and electricians, asphalt cutting and specialty demolition. The company has served Jacksonville and Northeast Florida since 1986.
Every job carries a $600 minimum charge. That covers most small jobs, such as a few core holes or a short trench cut. Larger jobs are priced by the job. Call (904) 246-1656 with the scope for a quote.
Yes. Overtime, night and weekend work is billed at a 30% premium. Off-hours cutting is common for roads that can only close at night and for businesses that can't have a crew on site during open hours.
ABC serves Northeast Florida and the surrounding region: the Jacksonville metro (Duval, Clay, St. Johns and Nassau counties), north to Brunswick, Georgia, south to Daytona Beach, and west to Gainesville and Tallahassee. The shop is in Atlantic Beach, and the crew will travel further for the right job.
Same-day and next-morning jobs are common across the Jacksonville metro, especially for core holes and trenching. Larger jobs, such as wire sawing or big removals, go better with a couple of days' notice so the right equipment and crew are on the truck.
Very little. All our cutting and drilling is wet, which keeps dust down and cools the blade. The water turns the cuttings into slurry, which is why ABC can cut inside occupied buildings.
Cleanup is scoped with the job. Tell us what the site needs to look like when we leave, from broom-clean to spotless, and we quote it up front.
No. ABC does not scan concrete with GPR. If a slab or wall may contain post-tension cable, conduit or rebar that has to be avoided, have a concrete scanning company locate and mark it before the cutting date, and ABC will cut to the layout.
No. ABC cuts and removes concrete; it does not pour back trenches, core holes or openings. Plumbers, electricians and general contractors usually handle the pour-back themselves or through their concrete sub.
Yes, ABC is fully insured. The crew has OSHA, forklift and aerial lift training, and the five-person team brings more than 150 years of combined cutting experience.
Both. Most ABC jobs are commercial, for electricians, plumbers, general contractors, road and underground contractors, utilities and facilities teams. Residential work is welcome too.
ABC is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am to noon, and closed Sunday. Night and weekend work can be scheduled outside those hours at a 30% premium.
There is no practical size limit on core drilling. Every truck carries bits from 1 inch through 12 inches, with half sizes up to 4½ inches, and the shop has large-diameter bits including 41-inch and 43-inch. ABC has drilled a 36-inch core through a 3-foot wall at a water treatment plant.
ABC's slab saws cut up to 24 inches deep, and wall saws handle walls up to about 2 feet thick. For anything larger, ABC uses wire sawing.
You talk to the owner when you call. Chip Boyd usually answers the phone himself, and there is no call center. Call (904) 246-1656 during business hours.
